The Voices Project

The Voices Project is a safe publishing path for people who have navigated addiction recovery, religious deconstruction, mental or physical health challenges, or other hard‑fought life struggles. Tell your story in a 45-minute recording session. We shape it into a book so others can feel less alone because of your story. We publish it for free.

How it works

You tell your story out loud using the app we provide. We transcribe your recording, and lightly edit it to make it easy to read without changing your voice. When everything looks right to you, we publish it for free. Your voice can begin reaching those who need to hear it. You may even publish under a "pen" name. Your story matters.

Record your story

We use the free StoryCorps app for your recording. It was created so ordinary people could share their everyday lives. StoryCorps has helped over 700,000 people record and archive their stories.

You don’t need a script or a plan—just your voice and a moment of honesty. You speak; the app records. We take it from there and turn it into a book.

Hi, my name is Ken,

and I’m an alcoholic. I'm six years into recovery. I’ve sat in the same chairs many of you have—NA & AA meetings, mental‑health support groups, and therapy rooms. I’ve felt the full weight of those seasons.

I also live with several mental‑health diagnoses, and there were times when things became overwhelming. I’ve had times in my life when I needed inpatient care. Reaching out for help was part of what kept me going.

Today, I’m in a good place. A very good place. I’ve learned to live in the moment, to cherish myself, and to “just be loved.”

It wasn’t easy getting here. Telling my story has been a meaningful part of my healing. Maybe it can be part of yours too.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it cost?

Nothing. It's free. We send you a free paperback book of your story. This is the heart and soul of our mission as a publisher. We publish human voices. We believe that every person who has overcome struggles, or is still facing them, should be he heard.

How does it work?

You speak your story using the app we provide. We transcribe it, edit it, and create a book that reflects your voice and your truth. You can download and archive your audio recording at any time.

How do you make money?

Additional copies. Your first paperback really is free. Then we list your book on Amazon at $14.99. We earn a small royalty from Amazon—about $6.70 per copy. Because our process is so efficient, we break even at around five books. So yes, we hope that your circle of friends and family order a few copies. But it's ok if they don't. This is a heartfelt mission for us. A personal mission.

Do I need to be a writer?

No. You speak your story in your own words. We help shape, edit, and structure it into a book that carries your voice with dignity.

Is my story confidential?

Yes. Everything you share stays private unless you choose otherwise. Your recordings, transcripts, and drafts are handled with care and never shared without your permission.

What if my story is messy, unfinished, or painful?

That’s exactly why this lane exists. You don’t need a polished narrative—you need a safe place to speak honestly. We help you shape meaning from the raw material of your lived experience.

Can I use a pseudonym or keep my identity private?

Absolutely. Voices Project authors may publish under pen names or partial anonymity. Your safety and comfort come first. Many meaningful books have been written under "pen" names.

Is this therapy or counseling?

No. We’re not clinicians. We’re a publishing house that treats human stories with respect, care, and emotional awareness. We are not a substitute for professional support.

Do you publish other books?

Yes, we do! We are a traditional publisher, and we work directly with authors to create books rooted in lived experience. We publish memoir, autobiography, personal journeys, devotional writing, poetry, spirituality, essays, and reflections on life, meaning, and faith. Visit our author's page at Scribora Select.
